The Adoption of Firefox

Since November 2004 we have seen the market share of the Firefox browser grow at about a percentage point per month. The web user is adopting the new software faster than ever anticipated and this is cutting into Microsofts' Internet Explorer market share primarily.

The primary reason that people are switching is due to the known security flaws in IE. There is no question that there are flaws in IE. What is yet to be determined however is if there are security flaws that are of the same level in the firefox browser. It was just discovered that there were 8 Security Flaws found in the Firefox browser.

So the question that remains to be answered is "Is Firefox more secure because it is programmatically better or just because virus and spyware/malware writters had simply not put it on their radar yet?" Now that the adoption is in full swing we will see whether it can stand the test. It will be interesting to see what happens!
